Milkha Singh also known as the Flying Singh or the Captain Milkha Singh was born on 20 November 1929. The legendary Milkha Singh died on 18 June 2021 due to Covid-19 complications. The birthplace of Milkha Singh was Govindpura, Punjab, British India.
Milkha Singh joined Indian Army and during his army services, he should his interest & dedication towards field sprinter. Through his hardworking spirit & passion for the sport, Captain Milkha Singh became the only Indian athlete to won gold at Asian Games and as well as Commonwealth games in the 500 m race. By also winning gold medals in the 1958 & 1962 Asian Games, he became a leading sports icon of India. Flying Singh participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics (Melbourne), 1960 Summer Olympics (Rome) and 1964 Summer Olympics (Tokyo). It was in the year 1959, Milkha Sigh for his outstanding achievements was awarded Padma Shri (India's fourth-highest civilian award).
